LEAKING TAPS
& PIPE REPAIRS SYDNEY
A single dripping tap wastes up to 20,000 litres of water per year. Our licensed plumbers fix all types of leaking taps, pipes, showers, and toilets β affordably and permanently.
Why Leaking Taps Are More Serious Than They Seem
It's easy to dismiss a dripping tap as a minor nuisance. But beyond the annoying sound, a leaking tap is wasting water and costing you money on every water bill. According to Sydney Water, a tap dripping once per second wastes over 31 litres of water per day β more than 11,000 litres per year. Multiply that across multiple taps, showers, and toilets and the waste becomes significant. Leaking pipes behind walls or under floors are even more concerning, as ongoing moisture leads to mould, structural damage, and costly remediation work.

Types of Tap Leaks and How We Fix Them
Not all leaking taps are the same, and the repair method depends on the type of tap and the nature of the fault. Traditional compression taps β the older style with separate hot and cold handles β typically leak due to worn rubber washers or O-rings. These are relatively simple to replace and one of our most common repair jobs. Modern ball taps and ceramic disc mixer taps work differently and can leak due to worn cartridges, cracked ceramic discs, or damaged O-rings within the body of the tap. Replacement cartridges are available for most major tap brands, and our plumbers carry a wide range of common cartridges in their vans for same-visit repairs.

- Ceramic disc cartridge replacement (mixer taps)
- Ball valve repair and replacement
- Tap spindle and jumper valve replacement
- Tap body replacement where repairs are uneconomical
- Quarter-turn tap conversions for older compression taps
- Tap reseating β resurfacing damaged tap seats
Leaking Pipes β Detection and Repair
Leaking pipes are often more difficult to detect than leaking taps because they can be hidden behind walls, under concrete slabs, or beneath floorboards. Signs of a concealed pipe leak include unexplained increases in your water bill, damp patches on walls or ceilings, soft or discoloured flooring, musty smells, and the sound of running water when no taps are on. Fix Your Plumbing uses non-invasive leak detection methods β including acoustic listening equipment and thermal imaging β to locate pipe leaks without unnecessary damage to your home. Once located, we'll provide an upfront quote for the repair and discuss the most efficient access method.
Leaking Toilets β Don't Ignore the Running Cistern
A toilet that continues to run after flushing, or that occasionally refills on its own with no one using it, has a leak somewhere in the cistern mechanism. The most common causes are a worn inlet valve (fill valve), a deteriorated cistern flap or flush valve seal, or an incorrectly set float. While a running toilet may seem harmless, it can waste up to 100,000 litres of water per year and significantly inflate your water bills. Our plumbers can diagnose and repair all cistern faults, and we carry replacement inlet valves and flush valve kits for most major toilet brands.
Flexi Hose Replacement β Preventing a Major Indoor Flood
Flexi hoses β the corrugated braided hoses that connect taps and toilets to the water supply β are one of the most common causes of home flooding in Sydney. They have a lifespan of approximately 5β10 years, after which the rubber interior begins to degrade and can fail suddenly and catastrophically, releasing hundreds of litres per hour directly onto your floor. Insurance companies across Australia are increasingly aware of flexi hose failures. We recommend replacing all flexi hoses in your home every 5β7 years as a preventative measure. Ask us about our whole-home flexi hose inspection and replacement service.
